Saké Sunday: Saké in Britain

Last week, I told you about increased sales of Saké in Korea and this week I want to discuss increased Saké sales in the United Kingdom.

Decanter reports that Saké have more than doubled in the past two years. This may be due to a couple factors, including increased popularity in Japanese cuisine and a growing recognition of Saké among wine and restaurant professionals.

But, the UK, as does Europe, lags behind the U.S. in Saké consumption. Europeans have yet to truly embrace Saké and could use some professional spokesmen to advocate for Saké. The U.S. has several prominent American Saké advocates, from John Gaunter to Beau Timken. The U.S. also has at least three all-Saké stores though I doubt any exist in Europe. But the news of increased Saké sales in the UK is still very promising and hopefully the herald of good things to come.
